Last week, our Customer Success Team led another Lunch and Learn for the managers in our user community to kick off the new quarter.  In People as Capital, our audience explored the connection between skills development to overall organizational success and how coaching cultures can benefit everyone, both personally and professionally.  In the future of work, managers can expect a focus shift to the development of soft skills instead of just coaching the concrete skills necessary for the current role.  This shift towards learning and growth on the go is a great way for organizations to build greater resilience and boost retention rates.

To get started, our team recommends 3 steps as managers adopt a coaching culture.

1. Align on KPI's. Before team members can identify their next steps, they first need to understand what is expected of them in their current role.  Everyone wants to know where they stand and how they can be successful, so by first identifying the current KPIs, managers and employees can get on the same page.

2. Identify next steps with an updated IDP. Individual Development Planning guides are great for understanding what's important to the employee and where they see themselves in the future. By creating a meaningful development plan, the employee is going to be more bought in and engaged with coaching feedback.

3. Build a strong coaching routine. Coaching cultures don't happen overnight. It starts with building strong routines that allow for opportunities to discuss coaching moments. By scheduling just a weekly 15 minute check-in to highlight what's going well and what the focus of growth is for the week ahead, managers and employees can strengthen their relationship, increase engagement and motivation, and drive continuous growth and development.
