In early 2021, Calvary Church was looking to implement a performance management and development tool. During Onboarding, Ron Cooney, Lead Pastor of Ministries, shared his need for a tool that would track job performance, provide a platform for healthy feedback, and most importantly, assurance for our team members who wanted to know if they were doing a good job. Ron shared that this stemmed from a personal motivation – in all the years he worked at Calvary Church, he had never received a formal performance review to know if his contributions to the team were valued or even helpful, and he wanted better for his leadership and team members.
WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE?
At the time, Calvary Church was looking for a solution to address the problems outlined below:
- Improve ability to track & document data to reference when completing performance reviews
- Increase employee engagement and feedback
- Create more meaningful touchpoints through real-time feedback for praise, coaching moments, and development opportunities

HOW DOES THE APP WORK FOR CALVARY CHURCH?
Before Truvelop, Calvary Church had no performance review process in place. Now, Managers at Calvary Church give real-time feedback regularly and complete evaluations quarterly. Having a regular cadence allows Managers to let Team Members know where they stand 4x a year, celebrate achievements from the previous quarter, and identify focus areas for the upcoming performance period.
Regular evaluations allow managers to understand their shifting talent landscape on an ongoing basis. One leader at Calvary Church shared that being able to identify who are his top performers, core performers, and low performers has drastically improved his own approach and engagement with each team member. The evaluation is the first step, the insight is the next step, most importantly, it’s about what you do with that new information.
With Truvelop, Managers can easily check in on development progress, share recognition, and coach & guide their employees towards their performance goals. With an easy-to-use mobile and desktop solution, Managers and Team Members can look back on measurable performance data points, paired with contextual data and documented real-time feedback, to track and trend progress.
Since April 2021, 227 Evaluations have been completed. That’s 3,405 data points for Calvary Church Team Members! Additionally, with Spark, 867 real-time feedback touchpoints have been completed. We took a look on the backend and Calvary Church is in the top 15% of our customer base for account utilization. On top of that, the majority of Sparks are posted to the Recognition Wall for everyone in the organization to celebrate the wins together – both big and small. 703 Sparks have been posted to the Recognition Wall!
Fun fact: Prior to Truvelop, Calvary Church used to use the term Snaps to give praise and recognition. After the first Truvelop training, they quickly transitioned to using the term Spark.
